Note: I only made note of my loco hauled trains at this time.

I was into New Street in time to cover the Didcot and Poole trains, the latter giving me a class 47/3 cop. Jane and Ken were on this as were Musto and the New Street crowd. For something to do I joined the train and headed off to Burton. Musto had “guaranteed” me a NB 47 for the return journey but the loco I had back looked like a regular Peak to me!

The overnight move was up to Wolverhampton and back with my regular electric moves but then, for the first time ever, the 0400hrs produced a required Peak on the Derby train. There was a bit of a wait here before the return Derby – Weymouth which I took to Tamworth for a DMU back to Long Eaton to catch the class 25 on the Llandudno train. Now for the 'clever stuff' as I took the Yarmouth 25s to Beeston so I could cover the Leicester – Skegness. What a bowl out because that train didn't start running until next week! So I had an hour to wait before the 20s appeared on the Derby – Skeg and then an immediate exit to Leicester with a Peak. The first Norwich – Birmingham train was a required 31 so I took that to New Street arriving by midday, in time to make the 25s on the Aberystwyth and then returning with a class 81 to New Street.

I was doing well for cops now as I picked up another one with a 31 to Leicester and then it was off to Derby. Here I met Pete Cuffley and several others with news that 47374 was at Reading and set up for the Poole – Notts train, wow, that's a winner! The rumour was it might come off at Oxford but that loco is so big a chance to get it can't be missed. So we set off on a series of trains to get to Reading which took about three hours from Derby. On arrival there we were met by several others who had heard the news but had an update for us. The news was that the loco had been requisitioned for a ballast train tomorrow. We were livid! I caught the first train back and was joined by a 'mini' spotter who had overslept on the way down. I was able to help him out with my unused ticket from a few weeks ago to cover his return back to Leamington. Most of the Brum area bashers were out in force at both Coventry and International and boy, were they narked at not seeing a required Tinsley 47 on the train! At Tile Hill our train had to be rescued by an electric loco and I bailed at International to cover the last Paddington into New Street before going home.
