Note: I only made note of my loco hauled trains at this time.
Monday found me taking a required 85 to Wolverhampton and then waiting for the Poole-Notts to turn up which was headed by a Stratford NB Duff.
Tuesday was similar in that I had an 81 up to Wolverhampton and a Cardiff NB Duff on the Didcot train.
Wednesday was a bit different as I went off to Gloucester with the Birmingham mob in the hope that a class 37 would be working M60. In the event it didn't and I was left with a Scottish ETH Duff for my trouble.
Thursday was much better in that there was another NB 47 on the Paddington train and later on a 47/3 on M16 from Solihull. Returning to New Street on this train we found an Immingham 47 heading a charter train to Coventry. Now that looked interesting so I leapt on, the others doing likewise at the front. I spotted the station staff making a move towards the front and guessed correctly that we were about to be thrown off so I hid in the toilet until the train started to move! I was the only one who was able to get the train and as we pulled out of the station and emerged, sat down in an empty compartment and waved to my friends on the platform who seemed less happy to see that I was still on the train. But this loco had a hidden cost. The charter was a SCHOOLEX for Primary schoolchildren (ie. under eleven years old) and they were very inquisitive as to why I was on the train. I soon found myself literally under physical attack from several small schoolgirls whose train this was. I bribed them with Opal Fruits not to tell anyone which simply resulted in them telling another compartment full of children who then descended on me. Once I had run out of sweets I had to go back to hiding in the toilet to avoid them until the train got to Coventry. Still it was worth it for the new engine. (Obviously invading a SCHOOLEX and bribing schoolkids with sweets would not be seen as a good idea nowadays).
