Note: I only made note of my loco hauled trains at this time.
I arrived at New Street in good time to start the weekend bash with a train to Derby. Not this time to get to the Skegness beecause it is Friday and it doesn't run today but rather it is to cover the returning York – Penzance train which is a pair of class 25s today. I only had them to Burton though because I leapt there to catch the following Peak down to Birmingham. Well the standard move from here would be S19 with a required 85 and the Bankers and then on to a West Coast overnight. However, on the advice of others, I took a train to Tamworth where I suffered cramp and froze whilst waiting for the Leeds train to arrive, the first of Saturday morning. Little did we know there was a heated waiting room available to us elsewhere on the station! However all moans about cramp soon left me when the train arrived with 40192 on the front. This was the loco that I had missed on a Friday evening when it came up from Gloucester on M60. I took it to Derby and then headed over to Nottingham for a required 25 on the Llandudno train.
By the time I got to Derby there was enough gen around to confirm this was going to be a great day for new engines. 37004 was coming up on the Newcastle train but that would force me to go north to Chesterfield and into the danger area. You didn't choose to go there without proper validity but this time I was lucky to escape without a check. I was also fortunate with the return journey so now where is that NB Tinsley 47 that should be arriving at New Street, I'm off for it! Err, what's that you are saying, 37003 is on the Scarborough, well perhaps I ought to get off at Burton for that. A decision taken whilst we were standing in the platform there! A good one too as it turned out as the Birmingham mob were out in force on it and it led to a return move behind a required Peak back to Burton for, wait for it, yet another class 37 on the Tenby down into New Street and by now it was only midday.
I took the 25s up to Wolverhampton even though they were both dud because it enabled me to cover a Roarer diagram on the return and this one dropped a required 81. I was soon back at New Street for a train to Derby eventually working my way round to Leicester for the Yarmouth 25s and another required loco. Back to New Street (again) for the evening Didcot loco and moves which looked more like a weekday now. News of another NB 47 on the Notts train so off to International for a Stratford Duff, excellent!
